The Swiss Government has recovered an additional $300 million from the late Abacha loot and is in the process of returning it to Nigeria.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Oyeama made this disclosure this at the inaugural ceremony of the 22nd regular course of Foreign Service Academy in Abuja, yesterday.
He stated that the Federal Government had been in touch with Switzerland, which he said, had earlier repatriated $700m to Nigeria. According to him, they have also recovered in the same context another $300m and were in to process of returning it to Nigeria.
Oyeama explained that Nigeria was also liaising with other countries such as the United Kingdom, United States and others to recover Nigeria’s looted funds.
The minister added that the goodwill generated by President Muhammadu Buhari’s visits to the US and other countries had helped in getting various nations to cooperate with Nigeria on the loot recovery drive.
