On the 21st of December 2011, Close Friends & Families of Adenrele Sonariwo & Damilola Amolegbe gathered at the Civic Center, Lagos as they introduced their vision for the first solely Arts University in Nigeria – The Modern Day School of the Arts. They presented the “For The Love of Arts Fair”, which featured over 40 pieces of Art Works from Artists such as Mode Adenirokun, Agahome, Karo Akpokiere, TY Bello, Victor Ehikhamenor. Libran Eye Photography, just to name a few. There was also an entertainment night event aimed at promoting and creating the Arts Industry in Nigeria.
The evening was hostsed by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu & Oluwafeyijimi Sodipo (Miss Nigeria, Queen Ambassador 2011) who introduced The Modern Day School of the Arts (MDSA) – a training institution that is set on advancing literacy in the community, promoting quality education and encouraging the creative performance of individuals. The goal is to grow into becoming Nigeria’s foremost institution for education of the arts.
Upcoming artists Lennon and Keytarist Jaiye serenaded guests followed by video presentations/Interviews from some artists and the art university alumni’s including Karo Akpokiere a graduate of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos Nigeria, Mode Adenirokun a graduate of Academy of Art University, San Francisco California, Bolaji Kekere – Ekun, Film Make/Founder of 37th State Production a graduate of University of South California (USC – Film School) and Osaru Alile, co-Founder of Caxton Alile Design a graduate of Interior Design from Fashion Institute of Technology .
The president of the Modern Day School of the Arts, Adenrele Sonariwo in his speech spoke on why the initiative is needed and how it would allow growth and freedom for most of the creative minds that will come out of Secondary Schools in Nigeria, thereby positioning these potential artists for careers in arts and design. She also shared the school’s curriculum with guests present, at the event the curriculum includes Fashion Design, Media, Interior Design/Architecture, Advertising/Graphic & Web.
Guests were also served a lavish dinner while enjoying a performance by Afrobeat-Hiphop-Soul Musician, Black Magic.
