The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari admittedly said on Wednesday that the performance of his administration in the power sector was “not good enough”, calling for more efforts by Electricity Distribution Companies to boost services by providing the needed resources and technical expertise.
Speaking in Abuja during the visit of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Ewuare II to the Presidential villa, President Buhari said that the Federal Government would play its own part by improving the transmission of electricity.
Responding to the Oba’s wonder of what the President would do to intervene in the power supply situation in Edo State, which he described as “pathetic”, Buhari appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the Discos to deliver on their mandate.
In a statement by the Presidential aide to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the President admits that the efforts of his administration to improve power in the past years, especially in gas supplies was not good enough.
“We are building infrastructure. We are doing our best, but, obviously, our best is not good enough yet”, the Presidency quoted Buhari as saying.
Oba Ewuare II, while congratulating Buhari for winning a second term, prayed God to guide him in picking a formidable cabinet.
