An accident in South Africa has claimed the live of 12 person and left 180 persons injured after a passenger train collided with a truck and burst into flames.
Images showed a fire engulfing several passenger carriages that were derailed at the scene near Kroonstad, 200 kilometres (125 miles) southwest of Johannesburg.
According to the provincial government health spokesman, Mondli Mvambi who spoke to Agence France-Presse (AFP), “the death toll has increased to 12 with at least 180 people injured, two of them critically.”
A rail company official, Leboho Mokhalipha who also spoke to AFP, made known that the teams were digging through the wreckage in search of any passengers trapped inside.
Some victims were treated at the scene while others were taken to hospital, local media reported, as uninjured passengers walked away from the wreckage, many carrying their luggage.
