Uzo Aduba & First Openly Transgender Actress Laverne Cox Both Nominated For Emmy

When the 2014 Emmy nominations were announced Thursday (July 9, 2014) morning, Uzo Aduba was sitting in traffic. But after a phone call from her rep, the Orange Is The New Black (OINTB) star realized that she had just earned her first ever Emmy nomination for her work as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in the show’s first season.

Also 30-year-old OINTBstar Laverne Cox makes history as the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for an Emmy.

She was nominated for an Emmy for guest actress in a comedy series along with co-stars Uzo Aduba and Natasha Lyonne.
