In the past few seasons, ARISE Fashion Week’s closing ceremony or grand finale have served premium entertainment with outstanding performances from music stars. But Sunday night’s gyration topped them all in terms of creativity and inclusion.
Among the singers who dazzled the stage amid breaks was Afrobeats stars Wizkid and Wande Coal, the legendary Asa, talented singer/songwriter WurlD, alternative band The Cavemen and many more who spiked finale with enthralling performances of some of their popular tunes.
This year’s event took the socially-distanced format of a talent search. Thirty African designers aged under 30 were selected to show their collections to a virtual audience, with an overall winner chosen by a roster of judges including American artist Kehinde Wiley and South African designer David Tlale.
Kenneth Ize, who showed at Paris fashion week for the first time this year, emerged winner receiving $5,000 alongside $100,000, while an extra jolt of publicity came in the form of Campbell walking in his show on day 1 Saturday December 12.
