Our world is indeed one full of ironies and one particularly notable example of this is seen in the lives and careers of about-to-be couple, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Nobody likes Kim and her family but their ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ reality shows is one of the most watched on TV, nobody likes or respects Kim herself but she is one of the most Googled and talked-about person in the whole world, everybody thinks Kanye is too arrogant, hot-tempered and self-glorifying; yet he remains one of the most followed and revered artistes of his generation.
Once again this irony has been emphasized, as the couple’s Vogue cover which became – and still is – one of the most controversial magazine covers ever, has reportedly sold over 500,000 copies! Yes, 500,000, beating the records of both Beyonce (over 350,000) and Michelle Obama (nearly 300,000).
Anna Wintour was blasted for putting Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of US Vogue but it appears as if her instincts were correct, as despite outspoken and ferocious criticism which sometimes bordered on the ridiculous, the issue flew off newsstands and has already sold over 500,000 copies and with subscriptions, it is believed the total sales could come to over 1.2 million.
The cover line of the magazine introduces the piece as: 'Kim & Kanye Their fashionable life and surreal times. #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.' It was the first time a hashtag was used on the Vogue cover and refers to Kim's huge social media presence – she has more than 20 million Twitter followers.
Once again, Kim and Kanye win!
