A Match Made In Heaven: Cartier The Renowned Jeweler & Watch Maker Partners With Polo Limited In Nigeria

 Last week Wednesday, 23rd of May 2012, we were invited for a Press/Media day at the Polo Limited headquarters on Ozumba Mbadiwe Street in Victoria Island Lagos to witness the official partnership between the Renowned Jeweler & Watch Maker- Cartier and Nigerian luxury company and retailer of world famous brands -Polo Limited.

Polo Limited has been in the business of retail luxury for 25 years and is the exclusive agent/retailer in Nigeria to world-class luxury brands for wrist watches, jewellery, leather goods and other fine accessories.

Present at the media briefing were representatives of Cartier from Geneva visiting Nigeria for the first time, Joaliers Bruno Caraz-Director Export Cartier Internationaland Vincent Decoopman Area Manager, Cartier International. Also present was top executives of Polo Limited; John O. Obayuwana- Chairman and Managing Director, Jennifer Obayuwana- Executive Director and Michael Eze- National Sales Manager.

Cartier a world renowned maker of luxury watches, bags, perfumes, jewellery and other fine accessorieshas been around for more than 150 years with about 305 boutiques around the world and across five continents. The brand has invested in over 15 African countries,as part of the luxury jeweler’s strategy to keep its luster in the African market and especially in Nigeria, the Cartier representatives in Nigeria had visited the Polo boutiques at The Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki, Lagos and at The Hilton Hotel Abuja all to see for themselves the sales boutiques and operations of Polo.

John Obayuwana expressed his happiness and explained Cartier’s invested confidence in Polo, according to him  “Cartier is an industrious brand and this partnership would no doubt be favourable for both companies as it will bring about sustainable growth judging by the viability of the Nigerian market. We believe that this partnershipis a match made in heaven. Bruno Caraz and Vincent Decoopman have come to see how Cartier can bring this brand closer home to our Nigerian consumers, something we are very pleased about, the whole idea is that we have a Nigerian brand (Polo) attracting global brand partnerships”.



Bruno Caraz also explained Cartier’s strategy in Nigeria, according to him, “the reason for Cartier’s entry at this time is because of Nigerians love for Cartier products, as records haveshown, Nigerians are the highest buyers of luxury goods in the United Kingdom and Europe. Our market statistics reveal that Nigerians are the highest buyers of our accessories, as they have proven to be very knowledgeable about luxury and are trendy and classy”.

Vincent Decoopman also added “realizing the kind of market inherent in Nigeria and judging by the huge population and our ever growing market base of Cartier lovers, we would be serving Nigerians by expanding strategically into the country with the able partnership of Polo in Lagos and Abuja and we would deliver the best services in terms of our products and expert training of Polo staff”.

When it comes to satisfying the style savvy and luxury customer in Nigeria, Decoopman added that “we have been in the business for over a 100 years, we understand luxury and know today is the right moment to go into the Nigerian market officially, our plan is a mid-term investment to a large term investment and our focus in on deliver the best luxury products to customers and not totally on sales”.
