Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom is facing an increasingly mainstream backlash after reconciling Channels TV reporter, Pius Angbo, with his wife, Ifeyinwa, who over the weekend, accused him of domestic violence.
On Sunday, Ifeyinwa, a medical doctor, shared a video online alleging that Pius was repeatedly assaulting her up in their six years of their marriage. Appearing with a bloodstained face, she narrated that he had just attacked her again after she cautioned him for misspending on other women since they now have a large family.
The nursing mother who welcomed their fourth child four weeks ago also accused Pius of beating her up while she was three months pregnant.
She says they have been married for 6years and they now have 4children together.
Last child was born 4weeks ago.
She had a surgery to give birth to the baby. She says the husband sometimes beat her during the pregnancy and also strangled her.

Immediately after the video hit the internet, many social media users started clamoring for the arrest and termination of Pius’s job to which Channels TV responded that the case is being investigated.
Things took a different turn on Monday as Governor Ortom and his wife, Eunice, met the couple and reconciled them. The governor apparently mediated on the domestic abuse matter and counseled them afterwards.
However, this has since angered the internet with many social media users using their platforms to condemn the move. Celebrities such as Toke Makinwa, Bolanle Olukanni, Simi, Mary Remy Njoku and more also joined in.
See few reactions below.

Can't sleep. I'm lying here awake, thinking. FIVE television stations showed up to a press conference by Governor Ortom, to announce how he "reconciled" an abusive man and his wife.
Five: AIT. NTA. CHANNELS. BENUE TV. The Other Nameless One. Wow!

If that nurse dies in the hands of her abusive Channels TV husband, blame the Governor of Benue State.

Channels TV should have sacked that abuser. Just goes to show with all the evidence in the world a criminal will still go free.

I hate divorce but I would rather want you alive than dead. If anything should happen to that lady in Pius house , Governor Ortom should be held responsible for it. That lady was looking so sick in the video . @channelstv

A man beat up his wife, the woman called him out on the internet and instead of arresting the man, the governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom and his wife decided to ‘reconcile’ them just a day after the woman called out a man that almost killed her.
This country is a pit

By his actions and intervention in the Pius Angbo abuse case, Governor Ortom just made every woman in Benue understand that the state will not rescue them from domestic violence.
They will most likely be pushed back to their abusers.
