Joe Biden has been projected winner of the 2020 United States presidential election, defeating President Donald Trump by promising to restore civility and stability to American politics and vowing more aggressively to combat the surging COVID-19 pandemic.

According to New York Times, Biden on January 20 2021 will become the 46th president and the oldest man ever sworn into the office. On Saturday November 7, four days after Election Day, he secured the requisite 270 votes from the Electoral College.

The election, far closer than many experts had predicted, was history-making: Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, is the first woman, and the first woman of color, on a winning presidential ticket.

Democratic Biden was declared the winner just over an hour after Trump declared on Twitter and Facebook: “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!” to which both companies warned that it was premature.

However, Biden after the announcement, took to Twitter to share a campaign video as he addressed the news writing, “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”
