Burna Boy Faces Backlash After Joining #EndSARS Protests With Billboards
Days after being bashed by Nigerians for staying silent on the ongoing #EndSARS protests, Burna Boy has finally chimed in and people are still not impressed.
On Saturday October 10, the Grammy-nominated singer voiced his support for the anti-police brutality movement by creating billboards across the country, bearing the ‘#EndSarsNow’ message.
Sharing the photos on Twitter, he wrote: “My #EndSARS now billboards have gone up all over Nigeria,” adding, “We’re Noisy…So they can cringe as they drive by. #endsarsnow.”

The internet quickly caught on to Burna’s post with mixed reactions, many of which were backlash saying that the Afrobeat star was trying to redeem himself after failing to live up to expectations when it was time for social activism.
After the comments made waves, some users defended Burna Boy, asking that fans cut him some slack since he’s actually doing the work.
Recall that yesterday, the ‘Twice As Tall’ singer layed out his plans and what he has done so far to drive the #EndSARS message home and effect an actual change.
In a letter to the general public, Burna Boy said he was raising funds to support the protesters through his foundation. He also revealed that American music mogul Diddy has donated to the #EndSARS relief fund.
On Instagram, he noted in his statement that the protest should not be about him but about deeper issues.

Burna Boy really expected these streets to eat humble pie once he unveiled his billboards.
This is why I advocate for organic, ethically-grown, locally-sourced drugs.

I think we can cut Burna Boy some slack already. Better late than never. The billboard contribution is strategic and commendable. He should cap it all by physically joining the #EndSARS protest.

Naija was created before Burna Boy was born, let's stop making it look like the protest can't continue without him.#EndSARS

This should not be a personal agenda @burnaboy this is a collective response to a problem we face. We don't need you going around saying 'MY'. Remember you are doing this for us.
