CELEBRATING THE PROUD WINNERS AT MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS
Lagos was electrified on December 11, 2010 as the anticipated third edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel (MAMA) rolled out in full force at the Eko Expo Hall in Victoria Island. The organisers of this year's event met all expectations with the promised performances of American hip-hop rap artists of Eve, Rick Ross, T-Pain, and Public Enemy.
On-hand with electrifying performances was their African counter parts including Nigeria's 2Face, Banky W, J. Martins, Mo Cheddah, Sasha and Wande Coal. DRC's Fally Ipupa and Barbara Kanam, South Africa's Liquideep, Big Nuz, Teargas, Jozi and The Parlotones, Angola's Paul G and Cabo Snoop. Kenya's Daddy Owen and P-Unit, Tanzania's Diamond, Mozambique's Lizha James, Uganda's Radio & Weasel and Ghana's Sarkodie. US rapper Rick Ross set the tone for the night when he opened the night with some of his famous hits that got guests rapping and dancing along to . The highlight of the night's was an electrifying collaboration of T-Pain Rick Ross, Da LES and 2Face. The success of the Awards can be attributed to the collaboration among talented African artists coming together and celebrating African. According to the Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa Alex Okosi, “tonight's Awards was a joyful and uplifting celebration of African youth culture and music. It brought together the best talent from across Africa to showcase the incredible music that Africa has to offer to the world.” Also, Andre Beyers, Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Africa, added by saying “the diversity and talent of the performances this evening was a reflection of the vast and rich talent pool that Africa has to offer.” Among the winners of the night was South Africa's Miriam Makeba, she was recognised and awarded the MAMA Legend Award.
