John Boyega and Nse Ikpe-Etim have weighed in on the issue of police brutality in Nigeria, in the wake of peaceful protests held nationwide by concerned citizens demanding an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a rogue tactical police unit.

The British-Nigerian actor waded into the conversation via his Twitter page on Friday. He wrote in one of his tweets that the youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance, before urging the Nigerian government to tackle the pressure issues in the country.

He wrote, The youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance. This situation is tied to many other issues. Please lend your attention to this pressing problem! #EndSARSImmediately #EndSarsProtests #EndSARS #EndSARSProtest

“We can’t simply enjoy Banana island every December without noticing the concrete wall placed between Nigerians and their potential. The limitations become unbearable for them and this needs serious attention. #EndSARSProtest,” he added.

The Star Wars actor concluded his chain of tweets, writing, Three years ago Nigeria’s police chief re-organised SARS after public condemnation about the violence that came with their operations. That change has done nothing for Nigerians and today many are still in danger. #EndSarsProtests

While, the Nollywood actress wondered why the presidency has not spoken a word yet regarding the protest. Posting on Instagram, Nse wrote, “There is unrest in the country. Nigerians are on the streets begging for their lives and the @NGRPresident is not declaring a state of emergency? Wow.”

In another tweet, Nse asked if anyone was listening after retweeting a number of tweets geared towards the campaign.

She followed up a post, pointing out media outlets for ignoring the pressing issues. This is what is on my TV right now, Misplaced priorities and brown envelope journalism is worse than shameful. The country is upside down. Put protests on mainstream media! #EndSARSNow the Mr & Mrs actress shared alongside a photo of the news being reported on her television.
