Former Arsenal Legendary Striker, Antonio Reyes Confirmed Dead In A Car Crash In Spain

It’s quite a bad day for football lovers, especially Arsenal and Sevilla fans, after their Former player Jose Antonio Reyes  has been confirmed dead in a car crash, some hours ago. The 35-year-old Spaniard, who was playing for Segunda Division side Extremadura, passed away following the accident on Saturday morning.

The crash is reported to have happened just outside of Seville, on a road between the city and Utrera, the town of Reyes’ birth.

It is understood that Reyes 23-year-old cousin, Jonathan, also died in the crash, while a third person suffered burns and has been taken to hospital.

Former club Sevilla tweeted: “We couldn’t be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace.”

Arsenal also released a statement:

“Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that our former player Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision in Spain, Jose Antonio Reyes: 1983-2019. Rest in peace, Jose ” They tweeted.

The former Spanish international and Arsenal hero was part of the Gunners’ Invincibles side that went unbeaten in the 2003/04 Premier League season.

He leaves behind two daughters, Noelia, five, and Triana, two, with wife Noelia Lopez, and a son, 11-year-old Jose Antonio Jr, from a previous relationship.

A minute’s silence will be observed later today at the Champions League final in Madrid in memory of Reyes, and seven matches in LaLiga have been postponed.
