Nigerian pop princess Seyi Shay covers the first September issue of digital magazine Blanck!

Wearing a while high-waist underwear paired with a matching white lace top and grey wavy hair, the rebel pop star may not have picked the coveted awards for Best Female Africa or Best Video at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards held in Durban, but her killer performance with Neyo was a major milestone and colourful feather added to her enviable list of achievements. Seyi Shay is a typical example of a hard worker with undeniable proofs. In a chat with Blanck’s Editor – In – Chief Franka Chiedu, Seyi Shay shares news of her new record deal with mega music label – Island Records, her truck load of achievements up with an exceptional music video for her song ‘Right Now’ as well as tackle the issue of marriage pressures and her thoughts on being unduly targeted by the media.

She also talks about the controversies, from the Amber Rose diss to her fashion choices and the constant comparism with Tiwa Savage.

She says, “I won’t say I read news reports on myself often. I check them out sometimes just to see what my fans are saying or thinking or to see what reviews the editors are giving my music or my campaigns. It’s important for my brand; but on whether I feel unduly targeted by blogs especially those that sensationalise the things I wear; I would say -Not at all, it brings good traffic! It is normal for anyone bringing something new to the scene, to face oppositions especially from people who don’t get it. When people see things they are not used to, they speculate but having said that, I think a lot of people are starting to understand my brand. I am here for the love of music; to make good music and to leave positive marks in the industry.

I also get very positive reviews both locally and internationally. I am very focused on my business as an artist. Mourning about the negatives and eventually breaking down as a result is not an option for me.
