A week after speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila unveiled the Infectious disease bill, the lawmaker has announced that will go through public hearing after much pressure.

The bill which was sponsored alongside Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions Pascal Obi and Chairman of the House Committee on Health services Tanko Sanunu, had ignited backlash and controversy as some Nigerians took to social media to reject the cause with #StopNCDCBill campaign.

However speaking during the plenary at the lower chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday May 5, Gbajabiamila disagreed with those who condemned the timing of the bill.

He also insisted that this is the right time to pass the bill which speedily passed through the first and second readings on Tuesday last week.
