THE MAKING is a Project idea born out of a need to support young designers in Nigeria by effectively presenting their works to the international audience and also support the ‘BUY NIGERIAN’ campaign.
According to Kola Oshalusi, it started out with a discussion with a young designer few years ago who wanted to shoot her collection, but couldn’t afford the rates. Most of her money had gone into putting the collections together, and she just couldn’t afford the shoot. He felt concerned because 1st her collections were really beautiful and the pieces were very affordable. So he thought of how many more of them are out there who are good at what they do, yet they don’t get the chance to present what they can do.
There are six phases of the project aimed at 10 young designers yearly, designed to run for between 3-6months yearly, with the belief that after each year the designers are much better and perfectly positioned to effectively grow their brands.
The Phases are
Selection – where entries are submitted and all submissions are invited to do a presentation before seasoned industry professionals. The panels include- Fashion editors, Fashion Stylist, Seasoned designers and fashion consultants.
Photoshoot – Each selected designer gets a free all inclusive photoshoot of their current collection.
Mentorship- the designers get mentored in various areas of fashion and Business of fashion by industry professionals
Review and evaluation – The project is reviewed and all designers get to share what they learn and brainstorming sessions are observed to help effectively channel their brands.
Equipment support- Designers with best collection are supported with basic equipments to support their business…
Currently they are rounding up the second season and hope to kick off a fresh season before the end of the year. OnoBello.com is going to go through “The Making 2” in a bid to support new talents and showcase the 10 designers for this year.
