Jaywon Arrested And Arraigned For Flouting COVID-19 Curfew In Lagos

Popular Nigerian singer, Jaywon was recently arrested and prosecuted by police authorities for violating COVID-19 curfew imposed on Lagos state.

The “AJE” singer, whose real name is Iledare Olajuwonlo James, was arrested on Monday by personnel attached to the Dolphin Estate division of the Lagos police command, The PUNCH reports.

Jaywon was said to be driving to an undisclosed destination at around 11 pm when policemen monitoring compliance with the curfew intercepted him and took him into custody.

The 33-year-old would later be brought before the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, where he was charged before a mobile court after his statement had been taken.

Reports also stated that Jaywon pleaded guilty during the proceeding on Tuesday after which the court ordered him to pay a fine of N10,000 while being sentenced to community service for 30 minutes.

According to Bala Elkana, a spokesperson of the Lagos police, there have been multiple arrests in the past days with Guardian Nigeria reporting over 176 culprits. Jaywon’s case comes after Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress, was arrested and arraigned for flouting the state’s social distancing directive with a house party.
