Lagos’ #EndSARS Protests Enter 7th Day As Falz, Others Resume Demonstrations | #SARSMustEnd
The widespread protests against police brutality and operations of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) continued on Tuesday with Nigerians reiterating their demands.
Despite Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s plea for a break, #EndSARS protesters have laid siege to the Lekki toll gate, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The Falz-led protest began as early with many youths calling for the end to police brutality.
Their activities has again led to vehicular traffic along the expressway. At the same time, hundred other protesters gathered in the front of the Government House in Alausa, Ikeja where the Governor has reportedly joined them in marching.
Recall that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the SARS dissolution after days of protests and allegations of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
The protest resumed on Monday across the country with the protesters demanding the immediate release of all arrested protesters; justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families and setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct (within 10 days).
Other demands include psychological evaluation and retraining of all disbanded SARS before they can be redeployed and increase in police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Ongoing Lagos protests have left at least 6 people dead, scores wounded and some in critical condition.
