Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday went into self-isolation immediately after one of his close aides tested positive for the novel Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.
According to Guardian Nigeria, the governor and other members of his team would be tested by the Lagos State Biobank today, but would remain in isolation until the results of the tests are available.
There has been a slightly increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in clusters in Lagos, with residents advised to adhere to the prescribed protocols and avoid unnecessary gatherings.
This is not the first time Sanwo-Olu is taking the COVID-19 test, having done so at least three times since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus.
Also its not the first time one of his cabinet members is contracting the virus as you may recall months ago that the state’s health commissioner Professor Akin Abayomi tested positive and has since recovered.
With almost 17,900 infections, the commercial capital Lagos remains Nigeria’s hardest-hit city. It is followed by the Federal Capital Territory, according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control figures.
Since originating in Wuhan, China last December, the pandemic has claimed more than 807,800 lives in 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, India and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.
Over 25 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries topping 15 million, according to the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
