If someone were to ask you to list a series of luxury fashion labels, it’s likely that Mai Atafo would be among the first to spring to mind.
The brand is known for its innovative take on womenswear, marrying unexpected fleece and knit fabrics with dynamic designs, and its latest offering is its most interesting yet.
The Spring/Summer 2020 collection, unveiled early July, contains a mixture of pieces for “the extremely fashion forward girl for work and play”, bringing “schooling life” and layered chic to your everyday wardrobe.
As you can see from the lookbook, complete with colourful gingham prints, the collection is “a closet build of upgraded basics giving room for layering and individual interpretations.”
Mai Atafo, Creative Director, said in a press release: “Growing up in Nigeria, everyone can relate to gingham check being the official fabric for most secondary school uniforms, especially the house uniforms.
With this collection, @maiatafo went against the set norm of the secondary school uniform, to create pieces that respects the gingham heritage; with creative permission, destructed and reinvented the perception of these uniforms to fit right into today’s fashion while invoking that high school Nostalgia.”
