Michelle Obama Wedding Throwback OnoBello

In the eyes of many, Michelle and Barack Obama are relationship goals, but just because there’s been plenty of good times throughout their almost 30 years of marriage, doesn’t mean the pair haven’t faced challenges, too.

On latest episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast, the former first lady has opened up about about dealing with rough patches in her relationship with Barack and her daughters with guest Conan O’Brien.

Mrs Obama who will celebrate her 28th wedding anniversary next month explained that at times she wanted to “push Barack out of the window”, Stylist UK reports. She added that people should view searching for a partner like assembling an all-star basketball team and that a person should ideally pick the absolute best person to be with.

“There were times that I wanted to push Barack out of the window. And I say that because it’s like, you’ve got to know the feelings will be intense. But that doesn’t mean you quit,” she said. “And these periods can last a long time. They can last years.”

“You want LeBron [James]. You don’t want the guy, third row on the bench, who didn’t make the team, but we often don’t think about that,” she said. “What you’re supposed to say, is, ‘I have married LeBron. My version of LeBron.'”

The 56-year-old “Becoming” author also stressed the importance of giving yourself time to see the person you’re dating “in an array of situations.”

“There’s no magic way to make that happen except getting the basics of finding somebody, being honest about wanting to be with them, to date them seriously, to plan on making a commitment, to date them, seeing where it goes, and then making it happen,” she said.

“You can’t Tinder your way into a long-term relationship,” she concluded. However, taking to Instagram on Sunday, she shared a sweet throwback photo from her wedding day while penning more advice.

Last week on The #MichelleObamaPodcast, Conan and I reflected on our marriages. This relationship can be one of the most foundational pieces of our identities—bringing us so much joy, meaning, and support every single day. But one thing is for sure: It also takes a lot of work; a lot of honesty with ourselves and our partners. That’s one thing I’ve learned. I’d love to hear some of the things you’ve learned about marriage and about yourself.” she wrote.

Michelle and Barrack Obama who both share two daughters, Malia, 22, and Sasha Obama, 19, tied the knot on Oct. 3, 1992.
