Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has been appointed Super Eagles captain.
Mikel replaces CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa who was made captain by former coach, Sunday Oliseh.
The announcement was made by Musa, at the pre-match press conference to the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Kaduna, where he gave the Chelsea midfielder the captain’s band.
Speaking on the new change, Musa said, “Mikel is the oldest serving player in the team and it is the right thing for him to have the armband. This is just to correct what was done in the past.”
Mikel on the other hand commended Musa for the bold move saying, “I want to thank Ahmed Musa for being a wonderful professional. It takes a man to come out and do what he has done today. I commend him a lot,”
