Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019: Marco De Vincenzo

look 1

Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 is in full swing in the one of the fashion capitals of the world.

The Fashion and Style Department is doing Show Reports on some select designers showcasing their latest collection this season.

According to a review by Vogue’s  Nicole Phelps, excepts from it reads:”De Vincenzo re-created his memories of his aunt on the runway, filtering them through the lens of today (read: plenty of logo sweatshirts). The most potent of his recollections was his aunt’s bare shoulders and how his family had to cover her up to make her appropriate for church. This he conveyed through the show’s peekaboo lace and chiffon layered over retro-styled lingerie.

Elsewhere, the plastic kitsch of little toys decorated oversize polos, snap-front shirts, and sleeveless dresses with scalloped edges. De Vincenzo interpreted her American denim with crystal trim decorating the seams of jackets, vests, skirts. Sicily, meanwhile, was represented by large crosses suspended from thick metal chains.

For all the emotion De Vincenzo expressed backstage, this collection came off unfortunately flat and drab. Its muddy-ish, washed-out tones failed to register his aunt’s “garish” charm, with the exception, maybe, of the pair of show-closing looks. The holographic paillettes of those two dresses conveyed both his aunt’s infectious optimism and de Vincenzo’s own flair for metallic color. More of both those things will be essential next season.”
