Mile 12 Yoruba/Hausa Clash: Lagos Assembly Calls For Relocation Of Mile 12, Owode Markets



Following the crisis which broke out last week in the Mile 12 market, Lagos, the State House of Assembly yesterday told the state government to begin arrangements for the relocation of the popular foodstuff market.

According to the House, the market which is due to be moved to Parafa, in Ikorodu, has overstayed its welcome and can no longer be tolerated in the heart of the city.

The popular Owode market along Ikorodu Road has also been pencilled for relocation as well as other market that have expanded to the highway.

The subject of market was presented during Monday’s plenary session under Matter of Urgent Public Importance by member of the House, Jude Idimogu who drew attention to last week’s mayhem which lead in the death of 12 and let several others injured as well as properties destroyed.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, in his ruling, said it was high time the government had done the needful on Mile 12 and set all machineries in motion to relocate both Mile 12 and Owode market, assuring that the House would support with the needed budget for such exercise.
