Movie Review: Multiple Personality Disorder? Ireti Doyle, Monalisa Chinda Married To Same Man In “Torn”

On Saturday 27th July 2013, Nollywood producer/director Moses Inwang premiered his latest movie ‘Torn’ at the Silverbird Cinemas, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Torn tells the tale of a psychological and highly emotional thriller of two friends Ovu and Nana who believe they are married to the same man, Olumide! Someone is either lying or suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder but who? There begins the unraveling of the truth by a top psychologist of what really is going on behind the façade of a seemingly happy, young couple and their perfect family friend.

‘Torn’ delves into the little-understood-and-often ignored world of mental illness in Nigeria and its effects on family and loved ones, This is all woven in a very human story of friendship, love, passion and betrayal.
The director, Moses Inwang has gone down the route most Nollywood directors are yet to explore by straying far away from the storylines we are used to, that makes Nollywood movies easily predictable.

Not only did he explore a different storyline, he also interpreted the characters excellently. Ovu played by Ireti Doyle was so convincing one may want to hold back from coming close to her in real life. she played the psychopathic  friend who is of the assumption (or certain) that her friend took her husband from her.

Nana played by Monalisa Chinda could have been a little more convincing if she had not gone the route of most Nollywood actors whose dress code does not sooth the occasion most times.

The pictures and the way the scenery were captured were excellent. It is obvious a lot of time was dedicated to the post production.

The movie stars Joseph Benjamin, Ireti Doyle, Monalisa Chinda, Bimbo Manuel and Julius Agwu, who all gave stellar performances. It was produced and directed by director, Moses Inwang for Sneeze Films.
