Nigeria Evacuates 162 Nationals Stranded In India, 246 More In UAE

Nigerians Stranded In India and UAE OnoBello

The Federal Government has confirmed the arrival of 162 stranded Nigerians in India and also the return of 264 UAE evacuees.

Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement in a tweet on Wednesday while the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) made the update known via their official Twitter account.

The Minister said, “The third batch of 162 evacuees have departed New Delhi, India by Air Peace. 

“The combined flight to Abuja and Lagos will first land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to disembark 48 passengers before proceeding to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos with the remaining 114.

“All evacuees will then proceed on the mandatory 14 days self-isolation.”

NIDCOM also shared the update of the UAE evacuees while thanking the Dubai and UAE Government for covering the tickets and cost of COVID-19 test for 131 evacuees.

“BREAKING EVACUATION UPDATE: 246 Evacuees arrive Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport, Lagos at exactly 3:30 pm local time via @emirates from UAE today, Wednesday 8th of July, 2020. A big thank you to the Nigerian Mission in Dubai and the UAE government for paying for the flight.”

Tickets and the cost of #COVIDー19 test for 131 evacuees. All Evacuees tested Negative to #COVID19 and will now proceed on 14 days SELF-ISOLATION as mandated PTF on #COVID-19.” they wrote.
