OB Crush: Femi Aliu Of MyFarmBase Africa
Our OB Crush of this week is one man contributing his quota to the development of Agriculture in Nigeria and Africa.
Femi ‘Royal’ Aliu is a tech farmer and the founder of MyFarmBase Africa, a social enterprise which uses technology to bridge the information gap in the Agricultural sector for Agribusiness owners and farmers. They provide mainly research, advocacy and Sustainable Agriculture consulting.
MyFarmBase Africa’s mission is to “foster food security by helping Agricultural value-chain stakeholders to leverage innovation and emerging technologies.” The platform “explores the use of digital media such as blogs, social media, website and chat-bots to provide real-time access to market, climate & production information, extension & agribusiness services to help boost food production in Africa.”
MyFarmBase Africa has also started his farm where it will grow maize, cashew and cocoa from 2019 while continuing to empower more youths in a bid to curb youth unemployment in Nigeria. Femi also manages West African operations of Blinkabi, a blockchain-based commodity training organisation that farmers can access to receive and pay for international transactions.
Femi is an alumnus of CommonPurpose (UK) Global Leadership Experience, TFA/FORD Foundation Political Leadership Program, Central Bank/Bank of Industry Youth Enterprise Program, Lagos Business School’s Project Management and Sustainability Program, YouWin Connect Program, African Changemakers Fellowship and he is a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.
