Over 40 #RevolutionNow Protesters Arrested Across Abuja, Lagos & Osun
Several men and women participating in the #RevolutionNow protest initiated by the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore have been arrested by security agents across three different states.
The protesters carrying placards and banners had set out as early as 8 am to demand good governance from the Buhari-led administration. The security agents which include police and Army, stormed the Unity center Abuja where the protesters converged, dispersed them, and got some of them arrested.
Also men of the Lagos State Police Command have clamped down on residents who joined the protest. According to Punch, no fewer than 20 of the 100 protesters who had converged on the Ikeja office of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights for a press briefing have been arrested.
One of the protesters told the news outlet that the police also attacked members of the group around the Ikeja Along area, adding that 15 people are missing. In Osun, the Department of State Services, also arrested #RevolutionNow’s co-convener, Olawale Bakare and six other protesters around Olaiya area of Osogbo, the state’s capital.
The protesters led by Bakare aka Mandate armed with placards had converged on Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists located in the area and informed newsmen that they wanted to address them before the armed men swooped on the protesters and arrested seven of them.
