British Fast-Fashion Chain Topshop to Arrive In South Africa’s Fashion Landscape Before The End Of 2012


British fast-fashion chain ‘Topshop’ plans an entry into the fashion landscape of South Africa before the end of the year. As written in their press release, “the rollout of Topshop will begin with the first stand-alone flagship store to be opened in Sandton City, South Africa by the end of November this year. It will be followed by a 2nd store in Durban, also before the end of the year.


Topshop is not the only global fashion player to setup shop in South Africa, “Zara” started it and now Topshop.



Ghana Fashion & Design Week Releases Show Schedule

The much-anticipated Ghana Fashion and Design Week have been slated for the 5th through the 7th of October, 2012 at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra Ghana.


Ghana Fashion and Design Week is a contemporary international platform that is envisioned to direct, lead and promote both emerging and established designers to a global audience.


They are thrilled to reveal the selected designers scheduled to showcase their 2013 collections. The designers are an eclectic mix of interesting designers across the globe and from within Ghana. The designers are Coccolily (Canada), 1981 (Italy), Morts and More (Britain), Sarah Duah (Germany), Christie Brown (Ghana), Maria Gonzalex Ramos (Spain), Jil (Ghana), Orange Culture (Nigeria), Mimi Lee London (Britain), Brigitte Merki (Ghana), Duaba Serwa (Ghana), Alali Boutique (Nigeria), Konfidence (Ghana), Kachi (USA), Mina Evans (Ghana), Trade not AID by African Fashion Guide (Britain), Rebekah Opuni (Britain) and Love April (Ghana).


The schedule for the fashion week will include a catwalk show and trade exhibitions and educative seminars on the 5th and 6th of October, 2012 at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel. On the 7th of October, there will be an invite only Fashion and Champagne VIP evening at the Villa Monticello Hotel.

Former Miss World Agbani Darego Launches Her Personal Website

Agbani Darego, the former miss world just recently launched her official personal website, According to her spokesperson, the main aim of the website is to create an avenue to strengthen the bond between the beauty queen and her fans and all her prospective clients.

The websites features a bio about the former Miss World, a news tab which gives updates and activities of her, a photo gallery and a contact tab where fans can leave comments.


Agbani was a former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) before going on to become the first ever black Miss World in December 2001. She recently graduated from New York University with a degree in Psychology. She is currently working with Ford Models in New York.



Janelle Monae Scores With Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, Covergirl

The 26 year old American singer is the newest easy, breezy, beautiful Covergirl. Just weeks after Pink was confirmed as the rep for the brand, Janelle Monae was brought on board for some of the action.

 Monae is beyond excited about the endorsement deal and she’s taking her contract and role as a brand ambassador seriously. She says, “One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique. Becoming a Covergirl is truly an honour and a gift.”


She wants this to be an opportunity to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.

Ono Bello, the Founder and Style Director of this digital has launched a series of charity initiatives by the magazine.


The first of these events is taking place today, 2nd June 2012 tagged the “Breakthrough Experience Makeover Charity Event To Uplift Women”. This event is involves beauty and fashion makeovers plus life coaching services are provided to five women, all of who have been able to overcome depressing economic and financial hardships. These women are under the umbrella of Awesome Treasures Foundation, a faith based Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO) that identifies, develops and deploys transformational leaders to positively affect Nigeria in line with the Millennium Developmental Goals (MDGs) declared by the United Nations.

This makeover is focused on touching the heart of every woman involved.

In addition to makeovers, women will be given gifts that include designer clothing, accessories and beauty products.

A professional photographer will be on hand to capture the transformation through a photoshoot that will be publicised on and in various forms of media in Nigeria.

WWD Magazine Names Nigerian Fashion Designer Maki Oh As A Designer to Watch

Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), an influential fashion trade journal has named Nigerian fashion designer Maki Oh, as “Designer to Watch.” The publication shared this on their Tumblr page recently.



Nigerian born and based designer, Amaka Osakwe is the brain child behind the Maki Oh label. There is certainly nothing stereotypical about Osakwe, from her distinctive use of natural materials, culturally inspired patterns and quality textures. Her designs has also attracted the likes of Solange Knowles who has on a few occasions been spotted wearing Maki Oh. Congratulations Maki!



 Nigerian Stylist Arieta Mujay Featured in The July Issue of InStyle Magazine

Freelance Stylist and PR Manager for high street brand River Island Arieta Mujay has recently been featured in international women’s magazine –In Style.


Arieta is Nigerian but lives in London. Her styling portfolio includes works with Alek Wek, Tyson Bekford, Liya Kebede, Deola Sagoe and Vogue.

Donna Summer-The Queen Of Disco Is Dead
The news comes as a shock for those who were unaware that she was ill: the Queen of Disco has succumbed to cancer at 63.  



In the year that claimed Whitney Houston, we lose yet another legend of black music, as well as a global gay icon. Donna Summer was the voice and the face that defined a whole genre: she will forever be known for her work with Giorgio Moroder, but her fame extended way beyond the golden age of Studio 54. We will be honouring the memory of the Queen of Disco by taking a look at the Style soon. Check back soon for that feature.
