Show Reports: ARISE Fashion Week 2020 Day 1 — Kiko Romeo
ARISE Fashion Week returned on Friday December 11 but not without some noteworthy changes. The continent’s most prominent fashion show has had to adapt amid the coronavirus pandemic by going virtual and streaming to a global audience across multiple platforms.
Kicking off the show with 20 designers showcasing in 4 batches of 5 designers each, designers and their models shuttled from an hotel for the shows following a carefully planned COVID compliant transit schedule.
Day 1 started with a stunning exhibition by Onalaja and ran to Wuman‘s graphic presentation. Fashion gives us fantasy, dreams and hope — themes that ran through the collections of the contestants of Arise 30 under 30.
Africa’s biggest stars such as Wizkid, Wurld, Wavy the creator and The Cavemen were also part of the fashion frenzy, spiking the evening with stellar performances.
Kiko Romeo has been igniting the Kenyan fashion scene since 1996. Led by mother-daughter design duo Ann and Iona McCreath, the label offers sustainable, contemporary designs crafted by local artisans using traditional hand-dyeing techniques. At the heart of the brand is a nod to Kenyan culture, which can be noted in the brand’s quirky details that pay tribute to the country’s art and music scene.
