Trend Huntress:The Rise Of Asymmetric Hemlines

For a while we had short dresses and short skirts being in vogue. It seemed like we couldn’t shut our eyes fast enough to the different sizes and colours of legs that were on display. Then the maxi skirts came around.

They were both fashionable and modest. We also had the maxi dresses, it seemed like everyone was trying to charge into the hippie fashion.

Recently, the trend has shifted to find a balance between miniskirts and dresses and long skirts and dresses. No, we are not talking about midi skirts or midi dresses. It’s the hi-low hemline that has caught our attention. The hi-low skirts are called “Mullet Skirts”. It’s an 80’s look, but there’s been a revival with an upgrade.

We’ve spotted different people wearing this look, from Nigerian songstresses Waje, Tiwa Savage and more to International stars like Rihanna and Mila Kunis. It’s been a major look entering 2013.

There’s lots of variety for how you can pull this trend off. In the picture above, Angela Simmons opted for a fitted max-dress with a high-low skirt that has a dramatic contrast between the front and the back. On the other end, Christina Milian is pulling off a very flamenco-style high-low skirt with frill around the hemline. In the middle, Nicole Richie has the skirt in a flowy pattern. Waje has made her style of the trend more dressy with lace details in red and black.

Today we’re going to bring you as many pictures as we can from the street style. Everyday people with style enough to rock a fashion trend with their own spunk. From floral designs, to print, stripes, and all you can expect from street fashion.

So try the trend and let us know how you pull it off.
