Chadwick Boseman Tributes OnoBello

The heart-wrenching news of Chadwick Boseman‘s death threw the world into deep mourning on Friday August 29, with his family, fans and colleagues in Hollywood and entertainment industry.

The 43-year-old actor who played black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame as the regal Black Panther in the Marvel universe, passed away after a four-year private battle with colon cancer at home in Los Angeles with his wife and family by his side.

His T’Challa character was introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and his Wakanda Forever salute became famous after Black Panther became a huge hit two years later. It became the first superhero film nominated for best picture at the Oscars.

A message on Boseman’s official Twitter account noted that many of his recent roles had been filmed “during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy”.

Hollywood A-listers such as as Chris Hemsworth, Angela Bassett, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry have since joined musicians and politicians in paying tribute to the actor, calling him “incredible”, “sincere” and “genuine”.

Presidential aspirant Joe Biden and his vice Kamala Harris also paid tribute, with Biden tweeting that Boseman “inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want – even super heroes”.

Boseman’s final tweet on 12 August was an image of himself and Kamala Harris, celebrating her selection as Mr Biden’s running mate.

“It was meant to be for Chadwick and me to be connected, for us to be family. But what many don’t know is our story began long before his historic turn as Black Panther. During the premiere party for Black Panther, Chadwick reminded me of something. He whispered that when I received my honorary degree from Howard University, his alma mater, he was the student assigned to escort me that day. And here we were, years later as friends and colleagues, enjoying the most glorious night ever! We’d spent weeks prepping, working, sitting next to each other every morning in makeup chairs, preparing for the day together as mother and son. I am honored that we enjoyed that full circle experience. This young man’s dedication was awe-inspiring, his smile contagious, his talent unreal. So I pay tribute to a beautiful spirit, a consummate artist, a soulful brother…”thou aren’t not dead but flown afar…”. All you possessed, Chadwick, you freely gave. Rest now, sweet prince.” #WakandaForever   A post shared by Angela Bassett (@im.angelabassett) on

Here’s to an incredible man with immeasurable talent, who leaned into life despite his personal battle behind the scenes. May we take this as a reminder that you never truly know what the people around you might be going through – treat them with kindness, and cherish every minute you have together.
