The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday declared the novel Coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. According to health agency, there are 118,000 cases, more than 4,000 deaths, and the virus has found a foothold on every continent except for Antarctica.
WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the number of cases outside China had increased 13-fold in two weeks. “This is not just a public health crisis, it is a crisis that will touch every sector,” said Dr. Ghebreyesus at a media briefing. “So every sector and every individual must be involved in the fights.”
He said he was “deeply concerned” by “alarming levels of inaction”. A pandemic is a disease that is spreading in multiple countries around the world at the same time.
