‘Women Around The World’, Garden City Literary Festival 2012

The 2012 Garden City Festival, which would be holding in Port Harcourt, is set to take off from October 15 and run through to the 20th, at the Hotel Presidential and the University of Port Harcourt, with the theme ‘Women Around The World’.


The festival has been put together and is in its fifth year of celebrating literature and the arts. It has also been created to serve as a platform for networking between people in the book industry. The main features of the festival include Book Fair, Writer’s Workshops, Symposium, Book Readings, Drama Performances and Children’s events.

There will be seasoned writers at all events to facilitate the workshop especially, which is to last for 3 days. This year, Doreen Baingana would facilitate the fiction class, while Dr. Obari Gomba would be taking the poetry class, and Captain Elechi Amadi and Veronique Tadjo would handle the Masterclasses.



According to the organizers, Port Harcourt is developing into a book hub especially with the city getting the title of UNESCO World Book Capital 2014. The book industry of the city is expected to thrive more.

The Garden City Literary Festival is organized by the Rainbow Book Club in collaboration with the Rivers State government.
