Joselyn Dumas opted to go natural a while back, trading her relaxed hair for her natural afro and you won’t believe some of the reactions to her new look.
The Ghanaian actress revealed on her Instagram that one person actually told her she looks “poor”.
Here’s what she wrote, “I’ve had all kinds of reactions and compliments( good and confusing ones) since I went for the big chop and decided to go natural for a while and see how versatile and creative I can be with both wigs and natural hair (switch up the looks when I like)…lol, my doctor saw me yesterday and she couldn’t make me out 😂 and when she finally did, she walked up to me and said #welldone Joselyn this is so beautiful hope you don’t go back too soon to a perm or wigs 😂can’t promise was my reply lol…Some say I look different, others said it’s taken a couple of years off, a friend said I no longer look #glam 😒 but the one comment that surprised me the most was “you look poor” 😳😳😳. What does that even mean?? My beautiful black hair makes me look poor?? 😳😳 It’s funny how we’ve been brainwashed to think as women of colour how inferior everything we have make or own is…including or beautiful black thick hair…”
The post got hundreds of comments from her fans with most in favour of the new look.
She continued with a second post encouraging her fans to live life on their own terms and not to allow someone else define what their beauty should look like.
“So many interesting opinions and comments under my last post. Thanks fam…😊😊 but one thing I’ve always known and for certain is; let no one’s definition of you dictate how you should live your life… #naturalhair #permedhair#weaves#wigs#braids, #makeup or #nomakeup you are who God says you are and #He has a purpose for your life before any one had an opinion..😇😇it doesn’t make you less human or a better human whichever you decide to do.. Switch it up when you feel like it. It’s called #choice #versatility The only thing you must not leave home without is that #smile cos that is #contagious and it looks #good regardless of the look you decide to go for #loveyourself ❤️❤️You are not your hair, your clothes, or the way you look… You are how many lives you’ve touched in any possible way…. You are a beautiful woman of color, mother of the earth, queen of the universe. Never let #words bring you down #beyou 😍😍😊😊,” she wrote.
